Kohli has got to find his way and become successful: Ganguly

The BCCI President believes that the batting maestro will soon return back to his best

Former India captain Virat Kohli has struggled with the bat of late and a groin injury has only made things worse for the star batter. The 33-year-old hasn’t scored an international century since 2019 and has been way below-par in the ongoing tour of England.

The right-hander could only manage scores of 11 and 20 in the Covid-delayed fifth Test and then scored just 12 runs in the first two T20Is of the three-match series before being ruled out of the final encounter due to a groin injury. He missed the first ODI and is unlikely to feature in the second match at Lord’s on Thursday (July 14).

However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly believes that the batting maestro will soon return back to his best. "Of course, look at the numbers he has got in international cricket that doesn't happen without ability and quality," said Ganguly while speaking to news agency ANI.

"Yes, he has had a tough time and he knows that. He has been a great player himself. He himself knows by his own standards it has not been good and I see him coming back and doing well. But he has got to find his way and become successful, which he has been for the last 12-13 years or more and only Virat Kohli can do that."

Kohli didn’t do well in the last edition of the Indian Premier League and former players like Kapil Dev and Venkatesh Prasad have started questioning his place in the T20I set-up ahead of the upcoming World Cup in Australia.

"These things will happen in sport. It has happened to everybody. It has happened to Sachin, It has happened to Rahul, it has happened to me, it has happened to Kohli. It is going to happen to future players. That's part and parcel of sport and I think as a sportsman you just need to listen, be aware of what it is and just go and play your game.”

Kohli has also been rested for the ODI series in West Indies and could now also miss the T20I series as the team management and selectors want to be careful about his injury.
