Virat Kohli is not active on social media personally. While his accounts remain abuzz with many posts of his brand commitments and advertisements, heartfelt posts are reserved for special family occasions or big career announcements.
Hence, it came as a surprise when Kohli took to his Instagram account to express what he was feeling after winning the coveted and much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy for RCB. Kohli didn’t hold it back, and thanked the fans wholeheartedly and said that the victory moment was worth the 18 years of wait.
“This team made the dream possible, a season I’ll never ever forget,” Kohli wrote on Instagram.
“We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the ride over the last 2.5 months. This one is for the fans of RCB who never ever left our side in the worst of times. This one is for all the years of heartbreaks and disappointment.
“This is for every inch of effort left on the field playing for this team. As far as the IPL trophy is concerned - you’ve made me wait 18 years to be able to lift you and celebrate my friend, but it’s been absolutely worth the wait.”
Not only the post, but Kohli also posted two Instagram stories. The first included a picture of him with Phil Salt, with the caption, “Well done partner, now go back to the real stuff and get ready changing diapers.” The diaper reference was timely, as Salt had returned to England right before the final for the birth of his child, but returned the night before the final.
Meanwhile, the second Instagram story had a picture of AB de Villiers and him, with a caption that recognised de Villiers’ contribution to the side over the years and read, “Equally yours, Biscotti.”
