Virat Kohli’s return to international cricket after more than seven months did not go as per plan as he was out for a duck. This was one of the prime reasons for India’s seven-wicket defeat in the Perth ODI, which was the first of the three ODIs in a three-match series.
Despite the loss and the duck by Kohli, former India and Jharkhand pacer Varun Aaron feels that the Indian batter will be more than happy heading to Adelaide for the second ODI.
“Virat Kohli has very fond memories of Adelaide. If there’s any ground he’d want to go to after scoring his first duck against Australia, it would be Adelaide, where he began his incredible run during the 2014 Test series,” Aaron said, as quoted by Indian Express.
Talking about Kohli’s nature and the way he was foxed by Australia’s Mitchell Starc, Aaron said, “He’s someone who likes to take charge, walk towards the bowlers, and play in straighter areas. Today was a different challenge. Mitchell Starc seemed one step ahead.”
Adelaide is the ground where Kohli has scored the third most runs in his career across formats, scoring 969 runs at an average of five hundreds and four fifties to his name in 17 innings of 12 matches.
Taking that into reference, Aaron said, “I’m sure Virat will go back, study his videos, and look at adjustments. Maybe playing deeper in the crease or later towards third man could be a better option. We saw him work on that during BGT, and I’m confident he’ll reflect, adapt, and come back with better plans to deliver the runs we all expect from him.”
Kohli has been one of the most consistent batters against Australia and the duck at Perth was his first against the opposition in Australia in ODIs.
