Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Rope In World Cup Winning Coach For IPL 2025

Last week, KKR appointed Ajinkya Rahane as their new captain

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have confirmed that they have appointed former West Indies and South Africa coach Ottis Gibson as assistant coach for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Gibson, 55, is a former World Cup-winning coach, having coached West Indies to their maiden T20 World Cup title back in 2012 in Sri Lanka. Gibson also served as the head coach of South Africa between 2017 and 2019.

The former West Indies fast bowler, who played a total of 17 international games between 1995 and 1999, joins a strong support staff unit at KKR. The defending champions already have a star-studded backroom unit, with the legendary Dwayne Bravo (mentor) and former India bowling coach Bharat Arun (bowling coach) assisting head coach Chandrakant Pandit.

Along with newly-appointed skipper Ajinkya Rahane, the aforementioned coaches will be eyeing to deliver KKR their fourth IPL title. KKR won the IPL for the first time in 12 years last season under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.

The side was assisted by Gautam Gambhir (mentor) and Abhishek Nayar (assistant coach) but both are now part of Team India’s coaching staff. Gambhir is the head coach of the Indian Men’s side.
