Kuldeep Yadav will exit England having warmed the bench for the entirety of the tour as the wrist-spinner has been overlooked again despite the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. With the hosts finally dishing out a green seamer, India have opted to instead go in with an extra batter, bringing in Karun Nair in place of Shardul Thakur.
The visitors have made four changes in total, with Dhruv Jurel (for Rishabh Pant), Akash Deep (for Anshul Kamboj) and Prasidh Krishna (for Bumrah) being the other three changes.
India will be batting first again, this time on a green top in overcast conditions, as Shubman Gill lost a fifth consecutive toss in this tour. This is India’s 15th consecutive toss lost at the international level in Men’s cricket. For Ollie Pope, meanwhile, it’s his first toss won as a Test captain.
England themselves have made four changes, all of which they announced yesterday: Ben Stokes, Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse out; Jacob Bethell, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue in.
