Indian football fans might be in for a treat as world-renowned football player Lionel Messi might feature in a seven-a-side cricket game that will also involve Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni on December 14 at the Wankhede in Mumbai.
“Messi will be at Wankhede Stadium on December 14. He is likely to play a cricket match, too, with former and current cricketers. The organisers will come up with a complete schedule once everything is finalised,” said a Mumbai Cricket Association official, as quoted in a report by the Indian Express.
The final details and logistics of the match are yet to be finalised; however, the match can also have Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma.
As per reports, Messi is visiting India from December 13 to 15. Earlier, he was supposed to feature in a friendly football game in India for the Argentina team in Kerala in October. Even the Kerala State Government was involved in that plan, and an agreement was reached with the Argentina Football Association (AFA). However, that plan has now been put on hold.
This would be Messi’s second visit to India, the first being back in 2011 when he played an international friendly game against Venezuela at the Kolkata Salt Lake Stadium.
