On the day he was ignored by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the ICC Champions Trophy (CT) 2025, Litton Das smashed his maiden T20 century. It was also the fastest century by a Bangladeshi batter in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Playing for Dhaka Capitals in a BPL 2024-25 match against Durbar Rajshahi on January 12 (Sunday), Litton reached the milestone in only 44 balls, making it the joint second-fastest century in the league’s history. He joined West Indies’ Chris Gayle, who had also hit a ton in 44 balls in 2017.
However, it was the fastest century by a Bangladeshi player as the right-hander broke the record held jointly by Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tamim Iqbal. They had both scored their centuries in 51 balls.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh named their 16-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in Pakistan and Litton, who has experience of 94 ODIs and is the sixth-highest run-getter for the country in the format, was not named in it.
Litton’s previous highest score in T20s was 85, which he scored while playing for Comilla Warriors against Sylhet Thunder in the last season of BPL.
Thanks to his knock of 125* and a century by fellow opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim (108 off 64 balls), the Capitals managed to post the highest-ever total in BPL history, reaching 254/1 in their 20 overs. The previous highest total in BPL was 239/4 by Rangpur Riders.
The opening partnership of 241 runs between Tanzid and Das was also the highest in the league’s history, breaking the previous record of 201 runs between Gayle and Brendon McCullum, set in 2017.
