Looking To Resume IPL 2025 Immediately: Dhumal After Ceasefire Announcement
BCCI and IPL GC have anyway selected three cities-Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad-to resume and conclude the league
Arun Dhumal, Chairperson of the Indian Premier League (IPL), is looking for an opportunity to resume and conclude the 2025 season, after a ceasefire between India and Pakistan was mediated by the United States and tweeted by their President Donald Trump on X (formerly Twitter) on the evening of May 10 (Saturday).
“Ceasefire has just been announced. We now explore the possibility of resuming and concluding the IPL. If it is possible to conduct it immediately… We need to work out the venue dates and everything,” Dhumal was quoted as saying to the Indian Express.
“We would now be speaking to all the stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and everyone involved and find a way as to how to move forward. Most importantly, we will have to consult with the government," he added.
The IPL was suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following the IPL Governing Council meeting (GC) with all the major stakeholders, including chief sponsors TATA group and broadcast rights holders Jio Hotstar.
The biggest hindrance to the quick resumption and conclusion of the league would be the return of the overseas players who have either left or are scheduled to leave by the end of Saturday.
BCCI has already planned for about a 14-day window in three cities - Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai, for the resumption of the league after a one-week break. A total number of 16 games remain to be completed, of which four will be part of the playoffs and 12 of the league stages.
However, if match 58 between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, which was abruptly called off at Dharamsala on May 8, is replayed, the total will move to 17 games.
