The third Test between India and England at Lord’s had everything on offer. The quality of cricket was top-notch, and so was the intensity between the two sides. Both Indian and English players were fired up, especially in the last two days of the Test, with plenty of on-field banter and sledging from both camps.
Like the first two Tests, this one also went into the fifth day. Chasing 193, India needed 135 runs with six wickets in hand when stumps were drawn on the penultimate day. However, things didn’t go as planned.
India lost three wickets early on Day 5, allowing England to seize full control. Ravindra Jadeja (61* off 181) showed tremendous grit, with support from Jasprit Bumrah (5 off 54) and Mohammed Siraj (4 off 30), but it wasn’t enough. India fell short by 22 runs, handing England a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Australia Women’s captain Alyssa Healy feels former India skipper Virat Kohli would have absolutely loved and thrived in that fiery Lord’s environment. “It was spicy, and I loved it. I mean, the chatter that was going on—some absolute dribble,” Healy said on the Willow Talk podcast.
“Probably shouldn’t say this for the sake of the current Indian team, but it made me miss Virat Kohli a little bit. Because I would imagine he would have absolutely thrived in that environment, that hostile atmosphere, trying to save a Test match. He would have been absolutely frothing to be a part of that. But Jadeja tried his best.”
Kohli had announced his retirement from Test cricket before the England tour. The right-handed batter from Delhi played 123 Tests and amassed 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 fifties.
