LPL 2023 set to be played in July-August window

Sri Lanka's premier T20 league was postponed to December last year due to the economic crisis in the country

The fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be held betweem July 31 to August 22, 2023, Sri Lanka Cricket (SCL) announced in a media release. The five-team event will be be played across three international venues.

Due to the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, LPL 2022 was moved to December but will return to its original window this year.

"We have decided to hold the tournament during July and August this year, as conducting the tournament during this period gives us the best possible opportunity to attract top international talent and also suits well with Sri Lanka’s international cricket calendar,"Samantha Dodanwela, LPL tournament director said.

The first edition of the tournament was held in November 2020 after being postponed multiple times due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Jaffna Kings are the most successful team, having won all the three editions so far.

Jaffna Kings beat Colombo Stars by two wickets in last year's final. They had previously beaten Galle Gladiators in 2020 and 2021 to emerge victorious.

Avishka Fernando finished as the leading run-getter in LPL 2022 with 339 runs at a strike-rate of 124.63, while West Indies' Carlos Brathwaite with 18 wickets at 9.88 finished with the most wickets in the season.
