Mitchell Marsh, the T20 captain of Australia, who has led the side in 35 T20Is so far, was asked who will lead the Kangaroos in the T20 World Cup 2026, to be played in India and Sri Lanka.
Even though his win-loss record is the best among Aussie captains to have led the side in 30 matches or more, the all-rounder had to actually quell the rumours of Pat Cummins overtaking him for the world event.
“Good question,” he replied to the query seeking his answer on whether he will continue or Cummins will take over as T20I captain for the marquee tournament.
He then added, “I think I'll be there.”
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony after the fifth T20I between Australia and India was washed out, Marsh also dwelled on the learnings from the series, which the hosts lost 1-2 after two games were washed out.
“There's a lot of learnings and positives to take forward. The adaptability and flexibility in our group and the squad we're trying to build in a World Cup year has been amazing,” he said.
Suryakumar Yadav, skipper of the winning Indian team, said that he is taking one series at a time and is looking forward to the side’ title defence.
“The way everyone chipped in and the way we came back from 0-1 down, credit to all the boys. It was a good series. Good headache to have – lots of players have been doing really well. Playing three strong teams – Australia, SA and NZ – is going to be a great build up for the World Cup,” he said.
While Australia will next play limited overs cricket on their tour of Pakistan, India will host South Africa and New Zealand at home.
