Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz became only the 23rd player in the entire history of Test cricket to complete a rare double of 2,000 runs and 200 wickets, when he hit his 36th run on Day 2 of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Chattogram on April 30 (Wednesday).
Miraz, who had already picked his 200th wicket during the first Test of the series in Sylhet with a 10-wicket match-haul, was 36 runs short of reaching the milestone of the 2,000th Test run.
Achieving this feat in only his 53rd Test, he equalled India’s Ravindra Jadeja to become the joint-fifth fastest in the world to achieve the Test double. England's Ian Botham is the fastest to double the 2,000 runs and 200 Test scalps, and he got to it in only his 42nd Test.
Among Bangladesh players, Miraz is only the second one to achieve the feat after the legendary Shakib Al Hasan, who has already bid goodbye to Test cricket. Shakib reached the milestone in his 54th Test, meaning that Mehidy is one Test quicker than him, making him the fastest Bangladeshi to reach the record double.
At the time of writing this, the all-rounder was batting on 76, eyeing his second Test ton, while Lunch had been called at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
