“We can score anything if we can get going.”
Travis Head has already fired warning shots at the Indian bowlers, suggesting that Australia will go all guns blazing in the five-match T20I series, which begins on October 29 (Thursday). Although Head hasn’t been in the best of form (70 runs in six games in 2025), his opening partner, Mitchell Marsh, has blown bowling units away with his sizzling form.
The Australian captain has smashed 367 runs in 11 innings this year, averaging 40.77, which includes his maiden T20I century that came against New Zealand. Head reckoned that the two would try to maximise the powerplay, and let the middle-order then come of their own.
“So, for Mitch (Marsh) and I (the plan is to) try and go out there and take advantage of it (Powerplay fielding restrictions). It’s been a strength of ours for a couple of years, that if you look at both one-day cricket and T20 cricket we’ve put a big emphasis on the Powerplay. We try not to be reckless, but at some stage it will look like that … but yeah, the plan is to try and get as many as possible,” Head told cricket.com.au.
Australia have a strong squad, with most of their starters available for the five-match series, as it is a solid build-up against a strong side ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2026. Head reckoned that it is a ‘huge power’ to have the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell coming down the order.
“When you’ve got the power that we’ve got behind us, we’ve got to get a move on,” Head added. “You don’t want to be chewing up balls up at the start when you’ve got (Tim) David, (Marcus) Stoinis, (Josh) Inglis, (Cameron) Green and (Glenn) Maxwell behind you. It’s huge power."
The first of the five-match T20I series begins in Canberra on October 29 (Wednesday).
