Moeen Ali has done some wonderful things in Test cricket: Joe Root

'I've thoroughly enjoyed sharing that dressing room with him and we've had so many wonderful memories,' the England captain said

England all-rounder Moeen Ali announced his retirement from Tests on Monday (September 27) after playing 64 matches for his country that saw him score 2914 runs and pick up 195 wickets in the format. However, he remains part of England's white-ball plans, with the T20 World Cup, starting next month.

While congratulating Moeen for a great Test career, he said that the all-rounder has done some wonderful things in the format. "First and foremost, it goes without saying that Mo's career speaks for itself and what he has achieved," Root said during the virtual press conference organised by the PCA, as per ESPNCricinfo

"He's done some wonderful things in Test cricket. He's been one of the great guys to play alongside. I've thoroughly enjoyed sharing that dressing room with him and we've had so many wonderful memories, on the field and off the field," he added.

Moeen has scored five tons and 14 fifties in Tests and with the ball, he has picked up five five-wicket hauls, which includes a hat-trick against South Afica at The Oval in 2017.

He is currently in the UAE playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
