More Consistent Than Shubman Gill, Says Jadeja After England Tour
Shubman Gill failed in five of his last six innings in England
Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja believes Ravindra Jadeja was more consistent than Shubman Gill in the recently concluded five-match Test series in England, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
In his maiden series as Test captain, Gill was in scintillating form, scoring 754 runs at an average of 75.40 with four centuries. The highlight came in the second Test, where the Punjab batter hammered scores of 269 and 161. However, Gill’s run tapered off, as he failed in five of his last six innings.
Ravindra Jadeja, on the other hand, finished the series with 516 runs at an impressive average of 86, including one century and five fifties. His scores read: 11, 25*, 89, 69*, 72, 61*, 20, 107*, 9, and 53.
“Is anything required to be said? The man has shown you what he can do. I think outstanding. Shubman Gill has scored 754 runs, and you are saying that he has reached close to the best. He (Ravindra Jadeja) has scored nearly 550 runs," Ajay Jadeja said on Sony Sports, as reported by News18.
“He has been more consistent than even Shubman Gill. He had four innings that didn’t end, because the batting ended from the other end. In the entire series, there were only two innings where he got out early.
“If we try to remember his moments, it started with Lord’s, where you couldn’t win for sure, but he and (Mohammed) Siraj fought there. A change was seen there. The fortitude started from there. Then he kept standing in the next match and drew the match. Then he scored runs in this match [last Test] as well.”
India's Test team will now turn their attention to the home season, with four Tests lined up in 2025 - two against the West Indies in October and two against South Africa in November.
