More Misery For Jaiswal As Jadeja Set To Become RR’s New Captain: Reports
Jaiswal is set to further fall down the leadership pecking order
Following a disappointing campaign for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), reports emerged claiming that Yashasvi Jaiswal was unhappy with the RR management for snubbing him as vice-captain, with the franchise instead handing over the reins to Riyan Parag when Sanju Samson was out injured.
Well, things could go from bad to worse for Jaiswal from a leadership standpoint, as according to a News 18 report, the Royals are looking at naming Ravindra Jadeja as the franchise’s new captain heading into IPL 2026. Jadeja is, as it stands, a Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player, but a sensational swap deal involving him, Sam Curran and Sanju Samson is in its closing stages, which would see Samson move to CSK with Jadeja and Curran heading to RR.
According to News 18, Jadeja agreed to the trade with one key condition, which is him getting the captaincy of RR if and when he completes the move. That would make the trade similar to Hardik Pandya moving from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians, as the premier all-rounder got handed captaincy despite MI already having a behemoth like Rohit Sharma leading the franchise.
Should Jadeja get captaincy, it will mean that Jaiswal will fall further down the leadership ladder, with Parag already the designated vice-captain. It remains to be seen if Kumar Sangakkara’s return as head coach will turn things around for Jaiswal from a leadership standpoint.
Meanwhile, the swap deal of Jadeja + Curran for Samson is not official, yet, and Cricbuzz reported on November 11 (Tuesday) that RR might have to let go of overseas players in order to both free up cash for the Curran trade, and also free up an overseas slot. Right now, their overseas slots are full and thus they will need to let go of at least one player to finalise the trade.
Unlike Jadeja, though, Samson is unlikely to be named CSK captain if and when the trade gets finalised.
For Jadeja, it’s a full-circle moment, as he started his IPL career with RR, making 27 IPL appearances for the franchise across IPL 2008 and IPL 2009.
