MS Dhoni On 'Friend' Virat Kohli: There's Always A Line Of Respect Between Us

The duo will be in action against each other in IPL 2025 on March 28 (Friday) at Chepauk

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli have always shared a close bond right from their initial playing days. Kohli made his India debut under Dhoni's captaincy and received plenty of backing that allowed him to flourish and become one of the best players in the world.

Dhoni played his last international game under Kohli, and since then has only been involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Kohli, who is with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), takes up every opportunity to interact with Dhoni during the tournament.

"It was always an honest exchange of ideas - whether a certain approach was right or if an adjustment could have been made. Initially, it was more of a relationship between a captain and a young player, but over time, as we kept interacting, we became friends," Dhoni said about his relationship with Kohli on JioStar.

"Even today, we share that bond, though there's always a line of respect between a senior and a junior. Now that neither of us is captain, we get more time to talk before matches."

While Dhoni has gone on to win five IPL titles with CSK, Kohli is yet to get his hands on the coveted trophy. They will be up against each other in IPL 2025 on March 28 (Friday) in Chennai.
