Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL 2021, Match 9: Fantasy Preview

Here are a few tips and suggestions that might help you in creating your fantasy team for the ninth match of IPL 2021 between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai

NOTE: All stats here are updated until 15 April 2021

Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad will clash in Match 9 of the 2021 Indian Premier League at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday (April 17). While Mumbai bounced back after a defeat to beat Kolkata Knight Riders, Hyderabad will be desperate for a win after having lost their first two games of the season.

There’s nothing to separate the two teams when it comes to head-to-head fixtures, with each side defeating the other on eight occasions each in the IPL. MI have a slight edge in recent contests, having won three of their last five fixtures against SRH.

IPL HEAD-TO-HEAD

Overall: Matches – 16 | MI – 8 Wins | SRH – 8 Wins

Last 5 Matches: MI – 3 Win | SRH – 2 Wins

SUGGESTED TEAMS

While you could go for the above team, you also have the option of choosing your own team from cricket.com’s Fantasy Research Centre. Based on algorithms, we have come up with one team.

GROUND DETAILS

The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai has hosted four matches in IPL 2021 so far and scoring hasn’t been easy, especially in the latter stages of the innings. The last three of those games has seen the team batting first come out on top.

Across the four matches at the venue this season, a dismissal has occurred every 20.5 runs and 15.5 deliveries.

When we consider T20 cricket since 2019 at the six venues that are hosting matches during this tournament, from a bowling perspective, Chepauk seems to be more favourable. In the aforementioned period, a wicket has fallen every 22.7 runs and 18.5 deliveries at this venue, which is a quicker rate than each of the other five stadiums.

TEAM COMBINATION

In IPL 2021 so far, spinners (7.3) have a better economy rate than pacers (8.1) in Chennai, but in fantasy cricket, it is wickets that matter more. On that front, despite the pitches being slow, it is the pacers who have accounted for dismissals more frequently.

Pacers have taken a wicket every 20.5 runs and 15.2 deliveries while those numbers are 24.2 and 19.8 respectively for spinners in the four matches at the venue until now. The fast bowlers have taken 64.9% of the wickets while bowling 58.8% of the overs – they’ve especially been very effective during the death overs.

We’ve gone with three pacers and two spinners in our team. We couldn’t fit Jonny Bairstow, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah in our side because of budget constraints. But they are three players you should definitely consider while selecting your team.

There could be a few interesting match-ups too.

Hardik Pandya hasn’t made the best of starts to IPL 2021, while Rashid Khan has been his usual excellent self, picking up two wickets in each of the two matches he’s played so far. Hardik hasn’t quite enjoyed facing Rashid in T20 cricket until now, managing only 18 runs from 33 deliveries while being dismissed twice.

David Warner versus Jasprit Bumrah, if it happens, would be a mouth-watering contest. Both Warner and Bumrah have been exceptional in the IPL over the years and have been key to their respective teams’ success. So far, they’ve faced off in 10 T20 innings, with Warner scoring 54 runs from 44 deliveries while losing his wicket twice to Bumrah.

CAPTAIN SUGGESTION

David Warner: The SRH captain’s consistency in the IPL is truly remarkable. In three of the last five editions he has played in, he has won the Orange Cap. Since 2014, no batsman has scored more runs than Warner (3876) in the IPL and that is despite him missing an entire season. During that period, he has scored 41 50+ scores in 89 IPL innings which is incredible. In his knock against RCB earlier in the week, despite tough conditions for batting, he managed to notch up a half-century.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts Warner could score 21-32 runs in this match.

X-FACTORS

Suryakuamr Yadav: While Suryakumar might not have scored runs as heavily as Warner, he has also performed admirably in the IPL in recent seasons. Since joining MI in 2018, he has scored 1503 runs at an average of 36.7 and strike rate of 136.9. During that period, no MI batsman has scored more runs than him. Such performances saw him get rewarded with a spot in India’s T20 International team recently. He showed his class with a fine fifty against KKR in MI’s previous game.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts Suryakumar could score 21-32 runs in this match.

Jason Holder: The former West Indies captain came into the SRH playing eleven for the game against RCB and shone with the ball, picking up three wickets. Holder’s consistency with regards to picking up wickets for SRH since re-joining the team has been brilliant – in eight matches for the franchise since 2020, he has taken 17 wickets. In fact, he has accounted for at least one dismissal in each of those games. He can also get you valuable points with his batting.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts Holder could score 12-19 runs and could take 1-2 wickets in this match.

Quinton de Kock: Another player who has been consistent in the IPL is de Kock. While he didn’t get off to a great start in IPL 2021, with a low score against KKR, he’s a quality batsman who gets MI off to top starts more often than not. Since 2019, the year that de Kock joined MI, no batsman has scored more runs for the franchise than him – 1034 runs at an average of 34.5 and strike rate of 135.7. His wicketkeeping is an added bonus in fantasy cricket.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts de Kock could score 21-32 runs in this match.
