Murali Kartik unhappy with quality of spinners in the domestic circuit

The spinner picked up 61 wickets for India between 2000 and 2007

Former India spinner Murali Kartik has lashed out at the quality of spinners available in the domestic circuit. Kartik has played eight Tests, 27 ODIs and one T20I for India between 2000 and 2007 during a period when the likes of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh were dominant.

In an interview with the last wicket podcast, Murali said, "So, if you ask me do we have spinners like that, I would say no. The level of spin is only going down. Many former spinners who used to watch us play at some point in time must be saying from their graves – are these bowlers? Terrible bowlers!"

Kartik reckons he was lucky to have played for India, thanks to the guidance he received from former spinner Bishen Singh Bedi, who taught him the tricks and advised him to have an attacking attitude even in limited-overs.

Kartik is now a TV commentator, appearing regularly during the Indian Premier League (IPL) and India's home matches.
