While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are yet to name Gautam Gambhir’s backroom staff yet, various reports have indicated that Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschete, are set to join the camp.
According to Cricbuzz’s reports, both Nayar and Ten Doeschete, who were part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024-winning Kolkata Knight Riders setup, are set to join the Indian team as assistant coaches. However, T Dilip, who stood out as a fielding coach during his tenure under Rahul Dravid, is set to be retained.
The reports further added that Dilip is “very good at team bonding exercises, considered a major requirement for players in a highly competitive environment.” It didn’t stop there, with further reports indicating that former South African pacer Morne Morkel will join the setup as the new bowling coach.
Previously, Morkel worked closely during Gambhir’s two-year stint at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The reports also were unclear on how Ten Doeschete would link up with the Indian team, given that he is part of the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) set up at the Major League Cricket (MLC).
If those reports are to be believed, the national team will fly out to Sri Lanka on July 22, ahead of the series opener on July 27 in Kandy.
