Against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 10 (Thursday), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legend Virat Kohli became the first batter to hit 1000 boundaries in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
Kohli, who had 998 boundaries before this game against DC, started his innings with a streaky boundary toward the third-man region off Axar Patel.
However, he got to the 1000-boundary mark in a classy fashion, with a stunning back-foot drive over cover for a six off the same bowler. That six made him the first batter to slam 1000 boundaries in the tournament’s history.
Shikhar Dhawan (920) and David Warner (899) are the next two batters on the list, but one has already retired from professional cricket, while the latter went unsold in the auction. With 885 boundaries to his name, Rohit Sharma is the next active player on the list.
Kohli took that boundary count to 1001 with a maximum off Vipraj Nigam but got out in the same over, mistiming one to the fielder at long-off, scoring just 22 off 14 balls.
Kohli has 721 fours and 280 sixes in the IPL. In terms of fours, Kohli is behind Dhawan (768). And when it comes to sixes, Chris Gayle (357) and Rohit (282) have hit more sixes than Kohli.
