Nepal Captain Rohit Paudel Wants More Series Against Test Teams After WI Hammering

Sharjah has been witness to one of the most extraordinary cricket results in recent times

One of the most extraordinary sporting results of the year took place in Sharjah on September 29 (Monday) as 18th-ranked Nepal not only beat, but obliterated two-time T20WC champions and sixth-ranked West Indies to seal a sensational series victory.

After losing the first T20I by 19 runs, many expected a strong response from West Indies in the second game but Nepal, on the night, embarrassed the two-time champions as they registered a stunning 90-run victory to complete a historic series win.

This was Nepal’s first ever series win against a full-member side, and skipper Rohit Paudel, after the game, hoped for more series against bigger sides so that Nepal can not only showcase their talent, but keep progressing as a side.

“It was a very important series, to showcase our skills in front of world cricket. that Nepal also belongs here,” Paudel said, reported Cricbuzz.

“A lot of eyes are on Nepal, we want to continue it and want to play much more series against Test playing nations.”

Reflecting on the stunning result, Paudel reckoned that his side played a near-perfect match from start to finish.

“We are very happy, it took a lot to win a game against a Test playing country and two days later we are winning a series and we feel really happy,” he said.

“It's very important, the way Aasif and Jora played, the way Jora accelerated, it helped Aasif. Today we improved a lot, in the bowling department the way we started in the powerplay, Deepi da and Karan started well and Alam followed it up.”

The job might be done, but Nepal have no plans on taking the foot off the accelerator. They are going for the kill, and are keen on completing a whitewash.

“We want to finish off on a high note, the motivation is there to clean sweep the series, for that we have to again start from the beginning,” Paudel said.

“If we do that, we will carry the momentum to the qualifiers and we want to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.”

West Indies skipper Akeal Hosein, meanwhile, urged his side to ‘look in the mirror’ and lamented the shocking level that’s been on display from his team.

“For us it's just about understanding really fast that it's international cricket,” Hosein said.

“I mean no disrespect to the opposition, if you are trying to benchmark yourself here in international cricket and can't match the level, then you have to look yourself in the mirror and ask are you good enough for international cricket.”

The third T20I will be played later today (September 30) in Sharjah.
