Virat Kohli has picked up from where he left off in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, as he’s amassed 505 runs in the season. The right-hander continued his rampant run in the season, scoring four fifties on the trot, including a classy 62 against Chennai Super Kings to take them beyond the 200-run mark.
AB de Villiers, who has shared quite a few valuable partnerships with Kohli, reckoned that the right-hander is RCB’s ‘Mr. Safety’.
“Virat is always there. He is Mr. Safety for RCB," De Villiers said in a video shared on his Instagram. "When he is there, you don’t have to fear. Never fear when Virat is near. That is the story.”
Kohli has come under immense criticism earlier this IPL, with a strike rate of 143.46, and scored a 47-ball 51, the joint-slowest half-century in IPL history. De Villiers called out all the critics, stating that Kohli was batting at almost a 200 strike rate against CSK.
"Nothing has ever changed, and what I want to tell all of you media people, I haven’t forgotten. I have the brain of an elephant. To all my journalist friends out there, I love you guys. But remember when you said Virat bats too slow, right? Virat was there batting at almost a 200 strike rate last night. Eat that.”
