New Zealand lose No.1 ODI ranking to England

New Zealand surrendered the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy to Australia on Thursday after losing the second ODI by 113 runs

A second consecutive loss in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy against Australia saw New Zealand drop to second place in the ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings. As a result, England overtook the Black Caps as the new No.1 side in the format for the first time since May, 2021.

India are in the third spot with 111 rating points followed by Pakistan, Australia and South Africa.

After reducing Australia to 44/5 in chase of 233 in the first ODI at Cairns, New Zealand let the momentum shift in the hosts' favour as Alex Carey and Cameron Green added 158 runs before winning the game by two wickets.

In the second ODI on Thursday, New Zealand were bundled out for 84 runs while chasing a small target of 196 after legspinner Adam Zampa claimed 5-35. As a result, Australia clinched the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy by 2-0 with one more match to go.
