Nice to hear there's a chance: James Anderson on possible return to England side
Anderson and Broad, who have 1,177 Test wickets between them were not picked for England's tour of West Indies
The appointment of Ben Stokes as England's new Test captain could be a good chance for James Anderson and Stuart Broad - the leading wicket-takers for their country - to once again prove their worth. Stokes has categorically stated that he would get the England duo back in the side right away.
Anderson and Broad, who have 1,177 Test wickets between them were not picked for England's tour of West Indies after a 4-0 drubbing in the Ashes. England have won just one out of their last 17 Tests.
With a chance to return to the side for the home series against New Zealand, Anderson expressed his happiness of getting back in the side. "Stuart and I were hoping our careers weren't over. So it's nice to hear there's a chance," Anderson told the BBC.
"It still means we've got to put in some performances here with our counties to prove that we're playing well enough to get in that final 11.
"Because of the situation and not having people in these roles, you're just so unsure of what's going to happen. So now having that clarity is really nice," he added.
With a fresh look pace attack in the Caribbean against West Indies, England lost the Test series 1-0, which was the last for Joe Root, who stepped down as captain. Head coach Chris Silverwood, his assistant Graham Thorpe walked away from their roles and Ashley Giles too stepped down as England's director of cricket.
If reports are to be believed, England will go back to splitting the coaching responsibilities. A new coach for the red-ball and the white-ball formats could be announced in due course.
