The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chair, Mohsin Naqvi, on July 26 (Saturday), announced that the Asia Cup 2025, which will be held in the T20 format, will begin on September 9 and end on 28th of the same month in the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi are likely to be the two host cities, although confirmation on that part is still awaited.
"I am delighted to confirm the dates of the ACC Men's Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9th to 28th. We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket. Details scheduled will be out soon," Naqvi, who is also the chair of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said in a social media post, as reported by Cricbuzz.
Posts of Naqvi on X are not available in India as his account is withheld in India as per government regulations.
It is not yet confirmed if India and Pakistan will be drawn in the same group. The schedule will be out very soon, as per Naqvi.
The announcement was due ever since reports of the ACC General Meeting in Dhaka suggested all parties agreeing to it.
India and Pakistan have not had great relations in the past few months. Yet BCCI agreeing to the tournament in principle and being its hosts means that they would have got the green signal from the government.
As per Cricbuzz, the Indian government is looking to project itself as sports-friendly in a bid to try to host the 2036 Olympics.
