Rajasthan Royals (RR)’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi is going to be all over the headlines on April 29 (Tuesday) after his outrageous knock against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur on April 28 (Monday).
However, the biggest outcome of that knock was the establishment that, despite being just 14 years old, he doesn’t fear any bowlers.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his approach clear. On being asked whether he fears bowlers, the southpaw said, “No, no fear. I'm not thinking about all that, I am just focusing on playing.”
Suryavanshi was also ecstatic about fulfilling his dream (can’t ever call it a childhood dream as he is still technically a child) of scoring an IPL ton, in only his third innings in the competition.
"It was my first century in the IPL in my third innings. What I've been doing for the last three-four months, the results are showing. I don't see the ground so much, just focus on the ball. It is like a dream to score a century in the IPL,” said the boy from Bihar.
RR skipper Riyan Parag was all praise for the 14-year-old as it was his knock that has still kept RR alive in the competition thanks to their third win.
“We've spent two months with him, we have seen what he can do. But to see him do this against world-class bowlers of GT, I can't express it in words,” Parag said, praising Suryavanshi, who was also named Player of the Match for his 35-ball ton.
Shubman Gill, captain of the Gujarat Titans, revealed why he was not on the field during RR’s batting and also rued not taking chances after RR chased down their target of 210 with more than four overs to spare.
"I sat out because I felt a back spasm. I didn't want to take a chance. We could have done a couple of things better, some chances came our way and we didn't take them," he said.
