India’s pace reserve and bench strength could be seriously tested in the second Test, at Edgbaston on July 2 (Wednesday). According to various reports, India are set to rest their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the second Test to manage his workload, after the pacer sent a combined 44 overs down in the five-wicket loss at Headingley in the first Test.
On the back of a terrible display, India would also be tempted to replace Shardul Thakur with Nitish Kumar Reddy, bolstering their lower-order batting and preventing further batting collapses.
Kuldeep Yadav, who warmed the bench for the first Test, has received plenty of backing over the past week from several quarters of the experts, suggesting that he could be India’s x-factor for the Edgbaston Test.
While Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair didn’t do much in the first Test, the selectors will most likely give them a long rope, suggesting that there might not be any change in the batting lineup.
