There is no doubt Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers share a close bond, not just on the field, but beyond it as well. The two delivered some memorable performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during their time together at the franchise.
However, when de Villiers had to pick the top five best players he has played with (or against) in tests, he did not pick Kohli.
His five picks were all-rounder Jacques Kallis and Andre Flintoff, followed by Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif, Australia legend Shane Warne and finally...Sachin Tendulkar.
"Kallis, Flintoff, Mohammad Asif, Warne. Sachin with the crowds. Just the way he [Tendulkar] was acknowledged while walking out to bat. It was like a standstill moment. Beautiful the way he batted. Virat. Sorry. Sachin. That's why it's difficult to answer such questions," he said on the Beard Before Wicket Podcast.
De Villiers ended his Test career with 8,765 runs in 114 matches at an impressive average of 50.66, which included 22 tons.
