Rohit Sharma has become the first Indian batter to score 1,000 runs against Australia in Australia. He achieved this feat during the second One-Day International (ODI) against Australia in Adelaide on October 23 (Thursday).
Moreover, only four other players have achieved this record before Rohit.
1905 - Vivian Richards
1565 - Desmond Haynes
1171 - Kumar Sangakkara
1013 - Mahela Jayawardene
1000* - Rohit Sharma
Rohit's runs have come at an outstanding average of over 55, and has hit four tons and two fifties in 21 innings so far. Among Indians, Virat Kohli is in second place with 802 runs, followed by Sachin Tendulkar (740), MS Dhoni (684) and Shikhar Dhawan (517).
Rohit made a scratchy start in Adelaide, scoring just a single off his first 11 deliveries before surviving a close run-out call at the non-striker's end. He returned to the India team after a gap of seven months in the first ODI in Perth, and even there, he could not make an impact as he was dismissed for just eight.
The former India captain is the fourth-highest run-getter for India in ODIs, with over 11,000 runs at an average in excess of 48. Australia currently lead the three-match series 1-0, following their seven-wicket win in Perth.
