Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), clarified after his team’s win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on May 7 (Wednesday), that this still might not be his last year in the league.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhoni said, “Not to forget, I'm 43, and I have played for a long time. They (crowd) don't know when it will be my last year. It is a fact I play only 2 months a year.
“This IPL gets over, then I have to work for the next 6–8 months to see if my body is able to take this kind of pressure. (on his retirement plans). Nothing to decide as of now, but the love and affection I get everywhere is excellent,” added the former India captain.
Ajinkya Rahane, whose team is nearly out of the race for the playoffs after this loss, said that they were 10–15 runs short while batting. "We thought 185-195 would have been an ideal total on this wicket, but I think it was a great game. Brevis and Dube took their chances, and it really paid off,” Rahane said.
On what is going to be his team’s strategy for their last two games, the 36-year-old said, “It is pretty simple, now we have to win two out of two. Let's see what happens from here on.”
Noor Ahmad, who was named Player of the Match for his figures of 4/31, said that he was not thinking about the Purple Cap while bowling, although he now has joint most wickets in IPL 2025 as of May 7 (20 wickets alongside Prasidh Krishna).
“Really happy with the work we did as a team. I did not keep thinking about the leading wicket-taker or the Purple Cap; I wanted to do well for my team. That's how it works for me,” Noor said.
