"Once I am done, I will be gone" - Virat Kohli on his post-retirement plans

The King is now 35 and wants to give it all before retiring from the game

Virat Kohli has revealed his post-retirement plans, saying people won’t see him anywhere near cricket for a while. One of the greatest batters of all time, Kohli is now 35 and wants to give it all before retiring from the game.

The former India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain is undoubtedly the most influential cricketer of the current generation. His influence and star power played a major role in cricket's inclusion in the Olympics movement for the Los Angeles 2028 edition of the Games.

Speaking at the RCB's Royal Gala Dinner, held in Bengaluru on May 18 (Wednesday), Kohli said, “It's quite simple. I think as a sportsman, we do have an end-date to our careers.

“So I am just working backwards. I don't want to finish my career thinking 'oh, what if I have done this on that particular day' because I can't keep going on and on forever. So it's just about not leaving any undone business behind and not having any regrets later, which I am sure I won't.

"Once I am done, I will be gone, you won't see me for a while (smiles). So I want to give it everything I have till the time I play, and that's the only thing that keeps me going.”

Kohli is currently the leading run-scorer in the Indian Premier League 2024, having slammed 661 runs in 13 innings at an average of 66.10 and a strike rate of 155.16.

RCB are set to play their last league match against Chennai Super Kings on May 18. They have to win that game by a decent margin to qualify for the playoffs. Currently, CSK's NRR stands at +0.528, slightly higher than RCB's +0.387.

Once the IPL is over, Kohli will head to the West Indies and the USA for the T20 World Cup.
