Virat Kohli has been an integral part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) setup since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. Since then, he has played two finals, in 2009 and 2016, but failed to get his hands on the trophy. RCB have reached the final yet again, and once again, the fans and the players alike would love to win the cup for Kohli, who is now a veteran for RCB in the IPL.
Speaking before the final, RCB skipper Rajat Patidar recognised Kohli’s contribution to the team over the years and said that the team will give their best to ensure history from the last two finals isn’t repeated in 2025.
“I think he has given a lot of years to RCB and the international side also. We will try to do our best in the game,” Patidar said.
“We are not looking on the stage that we are in the finals. We will try to play our best cricket. We are not playing here for the stage. I always like to keep things simple,”
Patidar also reflected on his captaincy in the league so far, as he was given the role just prior to this season. He remarked that he had a lot of learning opportunities because of the diversity of players in the squad, and has tried his level best to ensure a good environment in the team amongst the domestic and overseas players.
“Till now, I have enjoyed a lot to be honest,” Patidar said on being the RCB skipper.
“For me, I think it is a great opportunity to learn from the great leaders of the game, (some) great players, great foreign players of the game. It is a great opportunity for me to learn from them and their different ideas, which is helping me a lot in my leadership role.
“I have always tried to create a good environment off the field as much as I can so that every player, whether it is a domestic player or an international player, they both feel the same. They should feel relaxed and confident. I think this is my first point,” Patidar added.
