After just 61 balls in the contest, the clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was first halted and then called off — within minutes — due to escalating border tensions. Swift measures were taken by the BCCI to ensure the safety of the players, fans and everyone else involved, and as it turned out, the Punjab vs Delhi clash was the last game before the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) got officially suspended.
As it stands, it’s unclear when IPL 2025 will resume again but if and when it does, the clash between PBKS and DC will be replayed from scratch.
Indian Express reports that the BCCI plans to reschedule and replay the abandoned PBKS vs DC clash, which is why the two teams did not split the points between them in the wake of the cancellation, though the match was officially ‘called off’.
It will come as a relief for both sides, for whom the contest was a must-win for different reasons. While DC needed a win to firmly stay in the playoffs race, a PBKS win would have sealed their qualification.
In its official release, the BCCI said that IPL 2025 has been paused for only a week. Whether the tournament can resume in the next 10 days or so, however, will completely depend on the political situation in the country. In any case, there is a high likelihood that the remainder of IPL 2025 could be played in a different country should it resume, say, in the next 10 or 12 days.
According to The Cricketer, the ECB have already offered the BCCI the option of completing the remaining IPL 2025 matches in England.
