'People need to cut athletes some slack,' Kevin Pietersen on Eoin Morgan's form

The KKR captain has scored just 109 runs at 10.90 and a strike-rate a little over 100 this season so far

Backing Eoin Morgan, former England captain Kevin Pietersen has said that people need to cut athletes some slack as a sportsperson is not a robot.  In his 12 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, Morgan has scored just 109 runs at 10.90 and a strike-rate a little over 100.

"It happens. No sports person is a robot that continually performs. People need to cut athletes some slack," Pietersen tweeted while replying to a fain questioning the KKR captains' form. KKR head coach Brendon McCullum too has backed Morgan to come good in the remainder of the tournament.

"Morgan is one of our senior players and he is one of our international batters. As captain also, in his own head he would have liked to contribute a lot more runs," McCullum said following KKR's defeat to PBKS.

"Actually, I think he has captained the side really well tactically. We want some more runs from him no doubt in that, you need runs from your overseas batters. Look, I am confident that he will come right," he added.

KKR are currently placed fourth in the IPL 2021 points table and will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday (October 3). A win against the 2016 champions will take them one step closer to a place in the playoffs.
