Punjab Kings name Sunil Joshi as spin bowling coach ahead of IPL 2023

The former left-arm spinner has played 84 international matches for India between 1996 and 2001, scalping 110 wickets overall

Former India spinner Sunil Joshi has been appointed Punjab Kings' (PBKS) spin bowling coach, the franchise announced on social media. Joshi, a former left-arm spinner, was till recently part of the the Indian selection panel, before being replaced.

Joshi joins a backroom staff consisting of Trevor Bayliss, who replaced Anil Kumble as head coach along with Wasim Jaffer (batting coach) and former South Africa pacer Charl Langeveldt (bowling coach). After releasing Mayank Agarwal, the Kings named Shikhar Dhawan as the new captain. Agarwal was snapped up by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 8.25 crore after fighting off competition from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the auction.

Joshi had a similar role with the Punjab domestic team in 2019 before taking up a job with the Bangladesh national side. He has also been part of the coaching staff with Ranji teams like Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir and Assam.

IPL 2023 is set to see as many as 74 matches, 14 more than the previous seasons. The schedule of the tournament however is yet to be announced.
