Rajasthan Royals (RR) teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius’ stocks keep rising as after making his Test and T20I debuts recently, he is in line to make his ODI debut as well after being named in South Africa’s squad for the white-ball series against Australia next month.
Pretrorius, 19, became the youngest player to post a 150+ score in Tests earlier this month, and is currently featuring in the T20I tri-series against New Zealand and Zimbabwe, where he’s not had too much success. He finds himself in the ODI squad against Australia alongside another impressive youngster in Dewald Brevis, who this month debuted in the same Test as Pretorius.
Fast bowler Nandre Burger is in line to play his first ODI in 2025 after being picked in the squad as well. Burger, who has been hampered by injuries since last year, is also featuring in the ongoing T20I tri-series.
The team will be led by Temba Bavuma, and all the big guns, barring Marco Jansen, have been picked. One notable name missing from the ODI squad - as well as the T20I squad - is David Miller, who is on a ‘hybrid contract’ and so will be playing for Welsh Fire in the 2025 edition of The Hundred. All-rounder Marco Jansen, meanwhile, has been rested for the tour entirely.
As far as the T20I squad is concerned, Kwena Maphaka, Nqaba Peter and Rassie van der Dussen have all been picked. Prenelan Subrayen, who made his international debut earlier this month, is also part of the T20I squad, but the off-spinner, unlike the others, has been picked in the ODI squad as well.
The tour, which starts on August 10, will kick off with three T20Is, two of which will be played in Darwin. It will be followed by three ODIs, which will be played across two venues: Cairns and Mackay.
