Rajitha replaces Fernando as concussion substitute

Kasun Rajith has replaced Vishwa Fernando as a concussion substitute in the ongoing opening Test of the two-match series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Tuesday (May 17).

Sri Lankan left-arm paceman Fernando was hit on his helmet by a Shoriful Islam delivery while batting in the second session on day two. However, he batted till the end of the second session but didn’t accompany Angelo Mathews after the Tea interval. 

He did return to bat at the fall of the ninth wicket. Fernando scored 17* and put on a crucial partnership with Angelo Mathews. He bowled four overs on day two and then also sent down four more in the first session of day three before leaving the field with some discomfort.

Rajitha has played nine Tests, picking up 25 wickets at an average of 31.16. He last played a Test for Sri Lanka in 2020.
