Ravindra Jadeja’s stocks as India’s premier all-rounder continue to be at an all-time high, as the left-hander brought up his fourth half-century in England, on July 3 (Thursday). The 36-year-old stitched a crucial partnership with Indian skipper Shubman Gill, as the two were put under immense pressure in the second Test in Birmingham.
When Jadeja walked out to bat, India were in all sorts of trouble, at 211/5, and one wicket from there would have put the tourists under further pressure. But that’s where the left-hander’s experience of soaking pressure came to India’s rescue, scoring just four runs off his first 13 deliveries at the crease.
But Jadeja’s terrific record against Ben Stokes continued as he slammed a boundary through deep-backward point. He continued that approach against Shoaib Bashir with a four down the ground. Before England realised it, Jadeja moved to a 60-ball 39, taking the attack to England.
On the second day, the 36-year-old brought up his fourth half-century in England, and entered a rare club of cricketers with 700 runs and 25 wickets in England. Jadeja also became the only Indian to score 700+ runs and 25+ wickets in England.
Gary Sobers (WI) - 1820 runs & 62 wickets
Charles Macartney (AUS) - 1118 runs & 28 wickets
Monty Nobel (AUS) - 848 runs & 37 wickets
Jacques Kallis (SA) - 848 runs & 39 wickets
Ravindra Jadeja (IND) - 739* runs & 28 wickets
Not just that, the left-hander also brought up his 20th fifty-plus score at No.7, the most by any batter in that position since his Test debut.
