Former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin believes Ravindra Jadeja does not get the credit he truly deserves and feels that the Saurashtra all-rounder is more gifted than he can ever be. In the first One-Day International (ODI) against England, Jadeja picked up three wickets to become only the fifth Indian bowler to pick up 600 international wickets.
Moreover, he is only the second Indian all-rounder to have a double of 6,000 runs and 600 wickets in international cricket.
“Our media fails to appreciate when a player does well. Whenever we lose, everyone becomes a villain. He dismissed Joe Root [in the first ODI). Jadeja always goes under the radar. He is a ‘Jackpot Jango.’ He is +10 in the field, also bowls well and bats in pressure situations as well. We don’t give Jadeja enough credit,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel 'Ash ki Baat.'
Ashwin further stated that Jadeja is more gifted than he is.
"Jadeja is way more gifted than I ever can be. He is a born athlete. His major advantages lie in his physical fitness. He is naturally fit. Even at this age, he can cover the entire area from long on to deep square leg while standing at mid-wicket. I wouldn’t be surprised. And I will be more than happy for him," he added.
Jadeja finished with figures of 3/29 in the first ODI against England in Nagpur. He was also out there till the end with the bat, finishing unbeaten on 12 off just 10 deliveries to help India to a four-wicket victory.
The two teams clash in the second match of the series on February 9 (Sunday) in Cuttack.
