It was a day to forget for Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood, who registered his worst-ever bowling figures in T20 Internationals (T20I). He finished with 1/56 against South Africa in the second T20I in Darwin on August 12 (Tuesday), 26 of which came off the bat of Dewald Brevis.
Brevis, who smashed an unbeaten 125 off just 56 deliveries, belted Hazlewood for four fours and a six in the nine balls he squared off against him.
1/56 vs SA in Darwin, 2025
0/50 vs SA in Johannesburg, 2016
0/49 vs Pakistan in Dubai, 2021
0/46 vs England in Hobart, 2014
0/44 vs West Indies in Hobart, 2024
Hazlewood's figures, which are also his second-worst in T20s after his spell of 0/64 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2022, while turning up for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
In fact, Hazlewood was the best bowler for RCB in IPL 2025, where he took 22 wickets, playing a key role in the franchise's maiden title.
Brevis' efforts also saw South Africa register their highest T20I total against Australia.
218/7 in Darwin, 2025
204/7 in Johannesburg, 2016
201/4 in Johannesburg, 2006
190/8 in Durban 2023
178/4 in Cape Town 2016
Moreover, this is also the second highest total Australia have conceded at home after West Indies' 220/6 in Perth in 2024. Overall, this is the fifth-highest T20I total on Australian soil.
