Red-Hot Jagadeesan Not Thinking Too Far Ahead: ‘Want To Enjoy Every Match I Play’

Jagadeesan has a strong chance of being in the Indian squad for the home Test season

It’s proving to be quite the second half of 2025 for Tamil Nadu’s Narayan Jagadeesan, who is having the time of his life on the field.

Just over a month ago, he earned his maiden team India Test call-up, having been part of the Indian side for the fifth England Test at The Oval. And now, he’s started the new domestic season with a 197 for South Zone against North Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025 semi-final. The 29-year-old has been picked in the India ‘A’ side for the two unofficial Tests against Australia ‘A’ as well.

With Rishabh Pant still injured, there’s a good chance Jagadeesan will once again be in the Indian squad for the home Tests against West Indies and South Africa, but for the time being, the wicketkeeper batter is not thinking too far ahead.

“I’m here to just enjoy every match. I’m grateful for the opportunity to play here, because there are a billion people who would love to play in the Duleep Trophy, Ranji Trophy, or to be a part of the Indian team.” Jagadeesan said, Sportstar reported.

Speaking about his experience with the Indian team, where he was a part of the side’s historic win at The Oval, Jagadeesan said: “I took the positives from the India call-up in terms of being more confident. Getting an India call-up is something that a lot of people dream of. I was very lucky to be there.”

It’s been a hard and long journey for the right-hander so far, but the work put in is finally starting to pay off. He is keen to stick to his processes, and he believes that will certainly yield him success.

“It is very important for me not to get overwhelmed, or to try and copy someone in the Indian team just because they’ve already been there. I’ve fought my way to get to the Indian team, so it is important for me to stick to what I’ve done,” Jagadeesan said.
