India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is one of the most revered players in the country, however very little was known about him before he finally appeared on Express Adda and revealed a lot about himself.
On the platform, the Indian skipper was asked about his Plan B if cricket didn’t work out.
Answering that unlike former India spinner Harbhajan Singh and current pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah, he had no plan B of trying to go overseas and driving a truck.
“Nothing of that sort came to my mind ever,” Surya answered, as quoted by the Indian Express.
“But I always felt that I could have been a good businessman. My parents would always say I have a sharp mind for business. I have shared my knowledge of business with some people and they liked it. If I wasn’t playing cricket, then business,” he added.
Talking about his growing up days and how he managed to negotiate that he would play cricket and not go into academics, Surya said that he was always clear about what he wanted to do growing up.
“They gave me the best education till Class 12. But when they saw that I was serious about sports, they started supporting me. Everybody in my family is from an academic background, it was a difficult decision for them,” said the Indian skipper.
And how much money did he want to earn? Answering this, the 35-year-old said, “For me, it was simple. This life was given to me by my parents. So I must earn enough to take care of them, get married and have children. And I should be able to own a good car. Rest all is moh maaya.”
The right-handed batter also talked about the importance of criticism. He said, “I go to the mirror. If it does not answer, I have a wife at home who tells the truth.”
Right now, the Indian team is involved in a Test series against India. South Africa’s tour of India also consists of T20Is where Suryakumar will be in action again.
