REVEALED: Did BCCI Really Ask Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma To Play Vijay Hazare Trophy?

Their participation is expected to bring significant attention and star power to the domestic competition

An official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has clarified that the board has not pushed Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma to participate in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26.

Both superstars have already confirmed that they will play a few matches for Delhi and Mumbai respectively in India’s premier domestic 50-over competition. For months, reports suggested that selectors and the BCCI had urged them to feature in the tournament, but a board official told RevSportz that such claims were inaccurate.

“They have decided, it’s their decision,” the official said.

Since returning to international cricket during the ODI series in Australia, both Rohit and Kohli have been in outstanding form. Rohit scored 8, 73 and an unbeaten 121 in the three ODIs and was named Player of the Series. He continued that momentum at home against South Africa with scores of 57, 14 and 75.

Kohli began the Australia series with two consecutive ducks but bounced back with an unbeaten 74. He then tore into South Africa with scores of 135 (120), 102 (93) and 65* (45), earning the Player of the Series award.

Their performances against the Proteas showed they are still operating at peak level and are determined to push for the 2027 ODI World Cup. By then, Kohli will be 39 and Rohit 40, but this recent run of form has underlined how crucial both will be to India’s chances of lifting the trophy.

India won’t play ODIs again until the three-match series against New Zealand from January 11 to 18 next year, giving both batters ample time to feature in multiple Vijay Hazare Trophy matches. The tournament begins on December 24 and runs until January 18.

Their participation is expected to bring significant attention and star power to the domestic competition.
