England captain Ben Stokes is into movies, it is not a hidden secret. He, in fact, has an Amazon Prime documentary of his own, Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes. The fact that his style of captaincy is also inspired by a movie scene only makes that statement more valid.
But which is the movie that has inspired Stokes’ leadership? The answer to this is a World War II-based movie called Fury, where Pitt plays Don "Wardaddy" Collier. It was released in 2014, a year after Stokes made his Test debut.
Stokes, in a chat with The Times, once said, “I would never ask somebody to do something that I wasn’t prepared to do. Have you seen Fury? The bit for me that stands out is when he tells them all to leave, and he’s just going to stand there and fight on his own.”
This chat between Stokes and former England captain Michael Atherton, who also works as The Times’ cricket correspondent, was quoted by the Indian Express in one of their stories.
Stokes displayed the same characteristics as Mr Wardaddy Pitt during the Manchester Test against India, where he led both with bat and ball, taking a five-wicket haul and scoring a century.
