When the Duleep Trophy 2025 squad for the West Zone was announced on August 1, Suryakumar Yadav’s name did not feature in it. It was assumed that, since Surya is not in consideration for Tests, he has been rested to ensure he is ready for the all-important Asia Cup 2025.
In the latest development, it is understood that, rather than rest, rehabilitation was the reason behind Surya being out of the Duleep Trophy. He has been sent to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru to get ready for the Asia Cup 2025.
“Suryakumar Yadav is currently at the National Cricket Academy - or rather, the Centre of Excellence (CoE) - as he aims to be fit in time for the Asia Cup,” Cricuzz wrote in a report.
“At the time of selection, the West Zone selectors had enquired about his availability, and Suryakumar is understood to have informed them that he had checked into the CoE,” the report further wrote.
After the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Surya underwent surgery for a hernia in Munich, Germany, and his rehab at CoE would only be to check that he is fully ready for the big event in the UAE.
As for the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy 2025, it has Shardul Thakur leading the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
