Pant to continue as DC captain during UAE leg of IPL 2021: Report

Regular captain Shreyas Iyer, who was initially ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury, has made a complete recovery

Rishabh Pant is set to continue as Delhi Capitals (DC) captain 2021 for the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite the return of regular skipper Shreyas Iyer, according to reports. Pant was named captain DC captain after Iyer was initially ruled out of the competition due to a shoulder injury.

Iyer has already reached UAE where he is currently preparing for the remaining matches of IPL 2021 after recovering from shoulder surgery. Pant, on the other hand, is currently in England, where India are playing a five-Test series against the hosts.

“While it is great news that Shreyas Iyer is fit again and ready to get back to action, it is understood that the DC management want to give him more time to recover. As a result, Pant will continue as captain, but only for the second half of IPL 2021," a source was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

Under Iyer, DC made it to the IPL final for the first time in 2020.

Pant has led DC extremely well in the tournament so far and currently find themselves at the top of the IPL 2021 table with 12 points from 8 matches. While the tournament is set to resume from September 19, DC will play their first match on September 22 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Dubai.
