On 30/0, Rajasthan Royals (RR) were running out of ideas in their defence of 174 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 13 (Sunday). But that’s exactly where Sanju Samson handed the ball to the experienced Sandeep Sharma to counter Virat Kohli.
Prior to this clash, Sandeep’s record against Kohli is a well-known fact, with seven dismissals in 74 balls. The Chandigarh pacer did exactly that off the first ball with a cross-seamed delivery that had Kohli play a false shot. Kohli couldn’t get any sort of momentum on that ball as he got it in the air.
Riyan Parag, who was fielding in mid-on, ran across almost towards the long-off region, got there, and eventually ended up dropping a simple catch. Not just that, Parag also ended up pointing at the mid-off fielder, Tushar Deshpande. In the replays, it was clear that the young all-rounder got to the ball only to drop it.
Things went from bad to worse a few deliveries later when Sandeep dropped a return catch to give Phil Salt a life. As it turned out, Salt did the most damage against RR, with a 33-ball 65, smashing five fours and six sixes.
