Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, has praised Indian superstars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, stating that the Indian team would have fallen apart without them. Furthermore, the former cricketer-turned-coach congratulated the BCCI for sticking with the two superstars despite all the public criticism.
"I really want to congratulate the BCCI and selectors who supported the team," Yograj Singh told ANI. "I have always said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should not be dropped. If you drop them, then your team will fall apart. We may have lost in Australia, but we should not forget that we have beaten them in two series, too."
Yograj also dropped a bombshell, stating that he was expecting at least 5-6 people to be dropped from the setup, with the duo of Shubman Gill and Kohli among them. Over the last two years, Gill has been one of India’s best batters in ODIs, with 2,224 runs, averaging close to 65 in the format.
But his Test form away from home, combined with a small dip in ODI form this year (35 runs @19), has certainly kick-started conversations about whether India should drop Gill. Yograj was left pleased that India didn’t drop Gill from the setup.
"I was worried that 5-6 people might be dropped - Shubman or Virat could be among them. I was supporting them, so I think this is the best thing that has happened. I want to congratulate the board, the think tank, and the selectors. I appreciate these people," Yograj added.
