Rohit Sharma's 10th Test century - against West Indies in Dominica - has elevated him to the top 10 of the ICC Test batting rankings after the latest update on Wednesday. Following India's resounding victory over the West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the first of their two Test matches, Sharma soared three places to claim the 10th position on the list, boasting an impressive 751 rating points.
Among Indian batters, Sharma's position is followed by Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli. Although Pant slipped one spot to the 11th position with 750 points, Kohli retained his 14th place with 711 points.
21-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal, making his debut for India, left a lasting impression with his exceptional knock of 171 runs from 387 deliveries in Dominica. This outstanding performance landed him a spot on the batters list for the first time, securing the 73rd place with 420 points. His innings is the highest score ever achieved by an India opener on debut away from home and ranks third among India's best debut performances by an opener.
On the other side, the Windies' debutant, Alick Athanaze, impressed with a resilient 47 runs in the first innings, earning him a joint 77th place on the batters list with 407 points, sharing the position with England's Alex Lees.
The top nine positions on the batting list remained unchanged this week due to no Ashes Test cricket action.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin's extraordinary 12-wicket performance in the match solidified his position as the number one Test bowler, boasting 884 points. His lead over the second-ranked bowler, Australia's captain Pat Cummins, extended to 56 points, with Cummins amassing 828 points.
Ravindra Jadeja, Ashwin's teammate, saw a remarkable rise in the rankings, climbing three slots from 10th to seventh place, securing 779 points due to his five-wicket haul in the match. Jadeja maintained his reign as the number one all-rounder in the format, leading with 449 points, a remarkable 87 points ahead of Ashwin, who holds his steady second-place position with 362 points.
